After high school I wanted to spend time somewhere in the world working as a volunteer for a charity, perhaps working to help build shelters and homes. I was demoralized when I learned it was going to cost me about $3,000 for a month or two of helping others.
I did not have the money and went to work during the summer instead. I have donated to charities over the years, but maybe I could do more.
I was thinking that it probably wouldn’t look good if I had ads on the site, or even a few affiliate links to products that I feel confident about (rather than trying to earn commissions on every bed frame and mattress sold online which seems the popular choice).
I was thinking that this might be seen as somewhat biased and I was worried that it could subconsciously affect my feelings towards a company and its products.
But if I wrote the reviews first, then only recommend two or three products and companies, this should be fine? Right?
Well, I never spent much time thinking about earning money with this site as my living expenses are incredibly low. But I had a thought: Others could benefit from donations from any profits from this website.
I am researching charities that I would consider donating to and the two most important criteria that I have at this point include:
- More than 90% of donations have to go to the program and compared to overhead.
- Should provide more value than the donation. For example, one charity claims that for every dollar in donations a child receives $84 in medical care (or medicine, I forget). This is due to the amount of free medication donated to the charity. This criterion eliminates many charities as many provide funds directly to people in need, so a $1 donation is only worth $1.
I think it would be prudent to also have a section on the website that shows the monthly donations to which charities to share the successes with our readers.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or advice on how I can develop a sound program to help as many people as possible.
This website does not earn any money right now, but I think that it could in the future if I can keep plugging away at finding and sharing helpful information.
I have a few ideas on how to do this, but it would require more money and I have already invested funds in addition to more than six months of work.
Maybe to get this website to the next level I will have to turn on ads. Let me know your thoughts on this too.
