I have found that a number of people are researching the Internet looking for the weights of all types of beds and I was not able to find a good resource. So I decided to put the information together for organic mattresses and I hope a few people find it helpful.
The average organic mattress costs $2,590 for twin, $2,608 for twin XL, $3,246 for Full, $3,627 for queen, $4,658 for king, and $4,696 for the California king. That is an average of $3,571 for all sizes.
How Much Does an Organic Mattress Cost?
This can be a tough question to answer because there are so many variables. From manufacturers to materials and size to the number of layers, the possibilities are practically endless.
You don’t necessarily have to buy the most expensive model you can find in order to get a great night’s sleep. Plenty of middle-of-the road choices are out there that provide a good balance between comfort, durability and price.
Let’s look at just one online company called Naturepedic. They have several product lines including the Chorus and Serenade. These start at $1,999 for a queen size.
Naturepedic also sells the EOS (which stands for Ergonomic Organic Sleep) collection. Queen-size in this collection begins at $2,999.
Then, there’s they Halcyon collection, with queen-size prices starting at $4,999 and going up from there.
Of course, less expensive options are out there. Consider the Birch Natural Mattress, which sells for $1,499 but frequently goes on sale for $1,299 or SleepingOrganic’s 100% Natural Latex Mattress, which sells for about $1,500.

Why Do Organic Mattresses Cost More?
By now, you have a pretty good understanding of the benefits that you might get from sleeping on organic latex.
However, if you’ve been doing some comparison shopping, then you have probably noticed a fairly reliable trend when it comes to pricing. A model with top certifications is pretty nearly always more expensive than a conventional design.
As it turns out, there are a number of reasons for that.
One of the biggest reasons is the materials used. Simply put, latex frequently is grown in other countries that have a tropical climate. Not only do the latex trees need plenty of individual care on the plantation but also the raw latex has to be shipped over long distances.
Additionally, it can cost more and be more time-consuming to process and store the latex. Even wool and cotton tend to be more hands-on intensive for the growers, which means that they cost more.
It’s also worth considering the longevity of these mattresses, which easily could be two decades or longer. Most conventional models just can’t match this level of durability. Accordingly, you may pay more upfront for your organic latex mattress, but you probably won’t have to buy a new bed for a much longer time.
Some people think that the extra cost is worth it in terms of the eco-friendly impact on the environment and the sleeper. They like reducing their carbon footprint and knowing that they are participating in a sustainable and renewable process.
To be able to sleep without worrying about VOCs is just the cherry on top.
Things to Consider
If you’ve considered buying a new bed in the last few years, then you’ve probably seen advertisements for “organic” models.
This may have led you to wonder, “What’s an ‘organic’ mattress?”
More importantly, you probably found yourself wondering, “Why the heck are they so much more expensive than regular ones?”
If you’re wondering how it’s possible that I know so much about what you’re thinking, it’s not because I’m reading your mind. The simple truth is that I wondered the same thing when I got into building a website around bed frame and mattress information.
The more I learned, the more I discovered that some people don’t just prefer this option, some feel they actually “need” one.
Other people just love the idea of using a mattress that doesn’t bring any extra man-made chemicals or toxins into their homes. That’s especially critical when you consider that you could spend a decade’s worth of nights with your face pressed against it.
Do you really want to spend the next decade inhaling toxins?
Or, do you like the idea of sleeping on nothing but all-natural latex and wool?
Whether you have allergies or just want to keep your home cleaner, you may be considering buying one.
How much will it cost, and is the expense worth it?
Let’s learn more.
What Exactly Is an Organic Mattress?
The characteristics including no synthetic materials, organic natural materials only used including latex, wool, cotton, etc. Materials must not have been treated with harsh chemicals and are in compliance with GOLS organic standards with regard to the latex manufacturing
TIP: GOLS is an acronym for Global Organic Latex Standard. The standards defined in this certification require that latex products be made from organic raw materials.
To be certified for GOLS, the product must be made of more than 95 percent organic certified raw material. Also included in the standards are restrictions on the number of harmful substances that are included and emission test requirements.
You also might consider seeking an organic latex model that’s made from CertiPUR-US certified foams. Products that have this certification are made without ozone-depleting substances, harmful chemical flame retardants, formaldehyde, phthalates or heavy metals like lead and mercury.
When you buy one of these, you’re reducing your carbon footprint and limiting the number of harmful toxins that are released into your home’s air.
Why Choose an Organic Mattress?
Now that you know what it is, it’s worth considering why you might want to buy one.
Fans usually have no trouble coming up with reasons why they love it so much.
One of the main benefits is that they contain no harsh chemicals. This is because the materials that go into organic latex are carefully grown and processed without the use of potentially harmful chemicals.
Organic wool that’s untreated by harsh chemicals is another benefit. Plus, the sheep from which the wool is harvested graze in fields where no dangerous pesticides are used. Cotton components in a certified mattress similarly are grown without the use of pesticides and other hazardous chemicals that may be used in the manufacturing process of ordinary cotton.
TIP: To be certified the rubber must be grown on farms and plantations that observe USDA regulations.
For many people, the main selling point of an organic latex mattress is the absence of the carcinogenic flame retardants that are used on conventional materials.
Did you also know that they are hypo-allergenic? If you suffer from allergies, then your symptoms may be relieved when you make the switch.
Frequently, respiratory ailments and allergies are caused or exacerbated by the pesticides and chemicals that are commonly used in typical brands. Because all of the materials are natural and not treated with pesticides or harmful chemicals, they are extremely unlikely to cause allergic reactions.
TIP: Organic latex is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and resistant to water. Typical problems like mold, fungus, dust mites, bedbugs, and mildew aren’t concerns when you’re sleeping with these.
Another benefit of sleeping on one of these mattresses is that it helps to regulate temperature far better than other materials. The all-natural components are designed to keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
Moreover, these materials tend to wick moisture away from your body as you sleep. This means that you can sleep comfortably all year long.
If you choose one, you also can trust that it will be with you over the long haul. That’s because they have superior durability when compared with synthetic or conventional designs.
Because these are made with natural textiles that are long-lasting and flexible, it stands to reason that these can last for 20 years or even longer.
I was still using an old wool and natural fiber mattress from my grandmother when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, I was very allergic to it and we didn’t clue in until my early teens haha.
You might also appreciate that these models are made using sustainable practices and that they are biodegradable. These materials such as latex, cotton, and wool, all are renewable.
Are Organic Mattresses Worth It?
For people who have allergies, are sensitive to certain chemicals or are really devoted to leading a more sustainable lifestyle, there really is no choice.
However, there’s no doubt that these do cost more than conventional models. If the price is your primary consideration, then maybe it’s best to go with a much more affordable mattress.
Just keep in mind that you may need to replace the bed sooner than you would an organic one.
Because these have so many benefits, I’m inclined to say that they are nearly always worth the extra expense.
